DFSC Announces Endorsements

Posted on June 11th, 2009

Democracy for Snohomish County is proud to announce the following endorsements for the 2009 election cycle:

In the race for Snohomish County Council, District 1, Democrat Ellen Hiatt Watson is seeking to replace the incumbent, Republican John Koster. We believe that Watson represents the best in citizen activism and would be best suited to represent the citizens and protect our valuable natural resources from under-regulated growth in a district that will certainly feel the pressure of increase population over the next decade. We encourage everyone who cares about our county's future to help Ellen in anyway you can. Visit her website at: http://ellenhiattwatson.net/ and sign up to her Facebook group at: http://www.facebook.com/group.phpgid=90083563313&ref=share

In the race for Snohomish County Council, District 5, incumbent Democrat Dave Somers stands head and shoulders above the crowd when it comes to representing the citizens of his district and the entire county. He has proven that his reasonable and responsible approach to issues such as growth management, climate change, transportation, and public safety is the model that best serves the people's needs while protecting our land and waterways. We strongly endorse the re-election of Dave Somers and hope that you will offer him whatever support you can at his website: davesomers.org or at his Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/group.phpgid=33163597732

On a more local note, in the race for the open seat on the Everett City Council (Pos 2) Democracy for Snohomish County is pleased to endorse long time resident and Progressive activist, John Flowers. John is an attorney who has devoted much of his time to youth mentoring and community empowerment. He is on the board of the local NAACP chapter and has done much work for the powerless in our society. From his biography:

"...From 1984 to 1986, Flowers worked for a direct mail charity fundraising
company located in Washington D.C. During this time, he also worked for the
Legal Services Corporation, which provided legal services to those who could not
afford them. These services included eviction, foreclosure, other property
disputes, and defense in criminal cases..."

We believe that, if elected, John will help to move Everett in a more
Progressive; community driven, direction and we hope that you will do what you can to help by visiting his website: http://flowersforcouncil.com/index.html

Finally it is our pleasure to announce our enthusiastic endorsement of DFSC founding member and current board member, Jackie Minchew for Everett City Council, Pos. 3. Jackie's work in the areas of energy venerability and community empowerment are models of citizen activism at its finest. Jackie has been a leader at the civic and political levels and he will bring that same type of leadership to the Everett City Council. We encourage you to visit Jackie's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=104722752152
